JOB TITLE: MOT Certified Mowing Crew Member

SCHEDULE: Operations are performed in 18-day cycles, with a typical shift lasting up to 10 hours

The MOT Certified Mowing Crew Member plays a vital role in maintaining highways, rights-of-way, and public spaces through mowing, litter abatement, and grounds maintenance. This position performs all functions related to both mowing operations and ground support to meet contractual and safety standards.
JOB DUTIES
· Operate tractors equipped with flail mowers, bush hog attachments, and other implements for roadside and right-of-way mowing.
· Operate riding mowers and off-road utility vehicles to transport personnel and equipment.
· Operate company vehicles to transport personnel and equipment.
· Collect litter and debris along highways, rights-of-way, medians, and public spaces.
· Perform edging, trimming, and general grounds maintenance to ensure clean, safe environments.
· Use handheld tools and powered equipment such as trimmers, blowers, and edgers.
· Perform daily equipment inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs as needed.
· Safely load and unload equipment from trailers and assist with transport to job sites.
· Follow all safety protocols, including use of PPE and traffic control procedures.
· Identify and report hazards such as debris, sharp objects, needles, or unsafe conditions.
· Work collaboratively with team members to complete mowing, litter collection, and maintenance tasks efficiently.
· Accurately complete daily work reports and submit operational data via mobile device or paper log.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· MOT Worksite Traffic Safety Certified
· Experience operating tractors, mowing attachments, riding mowers, and/or power equipment.
· Knowledge of safe use and care of hand tools and mechanical maintenance procedures.
· Prior experience in landscaping, highway maintenance, or groundskeeping preferred.
· Ability to read and interpret safety rules, equipment manuals, and operational instructions.
· Strong teamwork orientation with ability to communicate and cooperate effectively.
· Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
· Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Physical demands
· Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, handle tools/equipment, and climb into/out of large vehicles.
· Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
· Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions for extended periods.
· Must be able to walk over rough, uneven, or steep terrain.
· Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
