PFCS is seeking an experienced Fire Investigator in the greater San Diego area. This is a remote, Independent Contractor role; however, we are open to discussing full-time employment with the right candidate(s).

Intro / Job Brief

The role of a Fire Investigator is to examine the physical characteristics of a fire scene, interview witnesses, and identify and collect physical evidence from the scene in order to ultimately establish the origin and cause. Investigators will partner with members of the Project and Technical teams to prepare and present an investigation report to our client. The right candidate for this position will demonstrate an aptitude in understanding, summarizing, and explaining complex fire scenes. This position reports to the Lead Fire Investigator.

Responsibilities

  1. Determine heat source, material first ignited, and fire progression.
  2. Photograph fire scenes to present as evidence.
  3. Identify burn patterns.
  4. Interview witnesses.
  5. Process, collect, secure, package, and transport physical evidence.
  6. Determine fire origin and cause.
  7. Testify as expert witness in court.
  8. Work in conjunction with insurance companies.
  9. Determine negligence.
  10. Investigate explosions to determine cause.

Qualifications

  1. Certified as Fire Investigator by at least one major organization (IAAI or CCAI, preferred).
  2. Experience in expert testimony or completion of an appropriate testimony training program.
  3. Able to travel, use a multitude of tools, and be photography and technology proficient.
  4. Own or have access to a vehicle able to carry the needed tools and equipment.
  5. Associate of Science in Fire Science or advanced degree is preferred.
  6. Experience working as a self-directed, independent leader.
  7. Excellent organization, planning, and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  8. Ability to think critically, solve problems, and communicate solutions by way of actionable information and recommendations.
  9. Ability to perform the physical requirements needed to conduct onsite inspections.
  10. Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word/Excel/Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Email, and Internet Research Tools.
  11. Experience with Email, and Internet Research Tools.
