Job Description
The Color Lab Technician prepares color samples for evaluation and formulation to support the Refinish Color Matching team in a fast-paced laboratory environment. This role focuses on mixing wet paint, spraying and reducing paint samples, and maintaining a clean, well-organized lab to ensure accurate and consistent color results.

Responsibilities
- Prepare color samples for evaluation and formulation in support of the Refinish Color Matching team.
- Obtain color formulations from the Color Matcher and accurately prepare sample mixtures based on the specified paint recipes.
- Mix wet paint according to defined formulations to meet production and testing demands.
- Reduce and spray paint samples following predefined specifications and standard procedures.
- Ensure accurate dispensing, labeling, and tracking of all color lab paint samples.
- Acquire wet paint samples from mixing stations and spray them using appropriate equipment and techniques.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
- Follow all laboratory protocols, safety procedures, and quality standards while handling paints, pigments, and related materials.
- Support general lab preparation and cleanup activities as needed to keep operations running smoothly.
- Collaborate with the Color Matching team and supervisor to meet daily production and project deadlines.
Essential Skills
- Experience working in a laboratory or similar technical environment, preferably involving wet chemistry, paint, or pigments.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory practices, including accurate measuring, mixing, and labeling of materials.
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, on-your-feet environments with consistent production demands.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure precise formulation, dispensing, and documentation of paint samples.
- Capability to follow written formulations, recipes, and standard operating procedures accurately.
- Willingness and ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including a respirator.
- Eligibility to work under export control requirements applicable to this role.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate (AS) or Bachelor’s (BS) degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific field is preferred.
- Coursework in chemistry, biology, or wet chemistry is highly beneficial.
- Candidates without a degree may qualify with a steady work history and strong tenure in previous roles, especially in fast-paced, physically active environments.
- Experience working with paints, pigments, coatings, or similar materials is a plus.
- Demonstrated reliability, strong work ethic, and consistent attendance in prior positions.
Work Environment
This position is based in a laboratory setting within a production plant environment. The role operates on a first-shift schedule, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work involves standing, moving between mixing and spraying stations, and handling wet paint, pigments, and related materials throughout the day. Personal protective equipment is required; safety shoes are mandatory, and all other PPE is provided. The technician will be fitted for a respirator, and proper facial grooming is required to ensure an effective respirator fit. The environment is fast-paced and hands-on, with a strong emphasis on safety, cleanliness, and adherence to standardized procedures and quality standards.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
