Position Overview

The Quality Manager is responsible for leading the Quality and Inspection Team. This role ensures that all products meet or exceed customer specifications while supporting compliance with AS9100 and ISO certifications. The Quality Manager promotes a safe, clean, and efficient work environment and oversees all quality personnel, departmental workflows, and resource planning.

Purpose of the Position

The primary objective of the Quality Manager is to develop, maintain, and continually improve the Company's Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring superior product quality and reliability. This role is critical in maintaining compliance with applicable industry standards, specifically AS9100 and ISO, and driving continuous improvement across all quality functions.

Major Responsibilities and Key Outcomes

Department Leadership

  • Lead and manage all Quality/Inspection staff.
  • Ensure inspectors are properly trained and competent.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets and resources efficiently.

Quality Management System

  • Maintain and improve the QMS in accordance with AS9100 and ISO standards.
  • Act as an official Management Representative.
  • Lead internal audits and coordinate external certification audits.

Inspection Oversight

  • Manage inspection processes for internally produced parts, customer-supplied materials, and externally processed components.
  • Ensure conformance to specifications before shipment to customers

Employee Training Oversight

  • Supervise and ensure proper training for all employees regarding quality standards and procedures
  • Maintain accurate training records and monitor ongoing competency

AS9100D Compliance

  • Train staff on AS9100D requirements to maintain certification and operational compliance
  • Stay current with any changes to the standard and proactively update internal practices

Calibration Management

  • Oversee tool calibration processes to ensure precision manufacturing
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate calibration records

Document Control

  • Manage the document control system, ensuring all quality documents are current, approved, and properly archived

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5–10 years of experience in a quality management role in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience as a Management Representative for AS9100D.
  • Strong understanding of QMS principles and ISO/AS standards.
  • Internal auditing experience and ability to manage audit schedules.
  • Proficiency in conducting management reviews and presenting QMS performance to leadership.
  • Knowledge of Corrective Action Reports (CAR), Preventive Actions (PAR), Continuous Improvement Plans (CIP), and MRB processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership in driving measurable improvements across an organization.
  • Proficiency in GD&T and blueprint interpretation.
  • Experience with complex layout inspection and inspection systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in documenting quality manuals, procedures, work instructions, and forms in compliance with AS9100D.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of machining and inspecting components for the aerospace industry.
  • A minimum of 2 years of internal, second or third party auditing experience.
  • Ability to travel out of town overnight, 5-10% of the time.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to travel to supplier/vendor sites as required.
  • Work is performed in both office and manufacturing environments.
