Job Description

This role focuses on performing emissions inspections and recording observations at a heavy industrial facility. The Inspector monitors emissions from the coke-making process, documents findings in accordance with regulatory standards, and reports results using basic computer tools. The position requires consistent outdoor work in an industrial environment and close adherence to safety and compliance procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Record observations of emissions from the coke-making process in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Perform emissions testing at an industrial plant and document all findings accurately and promptly.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office applications to input, organize, and report emission data and observations.
  • Communicate professionally and clearly with on-site supervisors and client representatives regarding observations and issues.
  • Walk assigned rounds around the site each day to observe, monitor, and document emissions and related conditions.
  • Work outdoors for the majority of the shift and remain comfortable operating in varying weather conditions and industrial environments.
  • Apply basic mathematical calculations to verify, check, and interpret recorded data.
  • Follow all site safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Attend occasional safety meetings at the office location and implement updated safety practices in daily work.
  • Support general inspection and basic labor tasks as needed within the heavy industrial setting.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of experience working in a heavy industrial setting such as a power plant, steel mill, or similar environment.
  • At least 6 months of experience using Microsoft Office applications.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to walk rounds around the site each day and remain on feet for extended periods.
  • Comfort working outdoors every day in an industrial environment and in various weather conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and technology to enter and manage data.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations to support data recording and verification.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally with supervisors and on-site contacts.
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and regulatory guidelines accurately.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in general labor or inspection roles within heavy industry.
  • Familiarity with emissions testing processes or environmental compliance activities.
  • Comfort working around large industrial equipment and in plant environments.
  • Willingness to work a Thursday–Monday schedule, including weekends as part of the regular shift pattern.
  • Reliability and punctuality to support consistent monitoring and reporting requirements.
  • Attention to detail and strong observational skills when recording emissions and site conditions.

Work Environment

This is a first-shift position, typically Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with occasional Saturday work as needed. The Inspector works at a large industrial plant the majority of the time and may visit the office periodically for safety meetings. The role involves working outdoors for most of the day in a heavy industrial environment, including exposure to varying weather conditions and plant operations. Full personal protective equipment, including hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, and high-visibility vest, is provided. The employee must supply their own steel-toe boots. The work setting is safety-focused, structured, and aligned with industrial regulatory requirements.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Clairton, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.
