Hunt Valley Environmental, LLC (HVE) is a small environmental engineering firm located in Westmoreland County, PA. HVE has a diverse group of private, public and non-profit clients in Western Pennsylvania.

Overview: We are seeking an Environmental Scientist to support a broad range of environmental consulting duties, such as site investigations, permitting, and restoration across environmental and infrastructure projects. The role emphasizes field biology and wetlands - from delineations and habitat assessments to mitigation site design/monitoring - while also contributing to Phase I ESAs, water quality work, and GIS mapping.

Key Responsibilities

  • Environmental Permitting - Assist in preparing applications and supporting documents for federal, state, and local environmental permits (wetlands, streams, threatened/endangered species, and water quality).
  • Compliance Monitoring - Conduct field inspections and collect data to ensure ongoing compliance with environmental permits and regulatory requirements.
  • Field Biology & Wetlands - Perform wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and vegetation surveys to support permitting and agency coordination.
  • Water Resources - Collect and analyze water quality and stream data to meet regulatory standards and support permit applications.
  • Mitigation & Restoration - Support the development and monitoring of wetland and stream mitigation sites to satisfy permit conditions.
  • Site Assessments & Reporting - Contribute to Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, background research, and preparation of environmental reports.
  • GIS & Data Management - Use ArcGIS and mobile tools to map resources, track compliance, and support permit documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned by the President.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years' experience; consulting experience is a plus.
  • Strong technical writing, time management, and teamwork.
  • Physically able to perform fieldwork; comfortable working on in the field as well as an office setting.
  • Travel as required; valid driver's license.
