JOB SUMMARY: The Employee Health Nurse/Education Coordinator provides for and delivers health and safety programs and services for the employees of the hospital, home care and ambulatory care areas. The practice focuses on promotion, prevention of illness and injury, and protection from work-related and environmental hazards. As Education Coordinator, develops, organizes and maintains a coordinated system of educational services supporting Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital. Develops monthly education calendar. Participates in development of short-term and long-term educational goals based on identified needs. Collaborates with managers to evaluate staff competency.
JOB DUTIES:
Employee Health and Safety:
- Supports Human Resource Department in the new hire health screening process.
- Administers, reads, and interprets Mantoux Tuberculin skin testing.
- Manages Hepatitis B Vaccination Program.
- Interprets immunization records and immune status test results to assure employee compliance with policy.
- Assists in pre-employment health screening educating employees and management regarding vaccination requirements.
- Coordinates follow-up on employee exposures to blood borne pathogens, communicable diseases, and sharps-related injuries.
- Manages the Employee Flu Vaccine program, including coordination of employee flu shot clinics and tracking and reporting participation rates.
- Performs staff training regarding employee health topics (i.e., blood borne pathogens, hand washing, proper use of PPE).
- Assists with coordination of chronic exposure testing when requested by Human Resources.
- Creates and updates policies and procedures related to employee health.
- Member of Environment of Care committee, responsible for reporting of blood borne pathogen exposures and sharps injuries.
- Member of Safe Patient Handling Committee.
- Functions as a resource to staff in matters relating to occupational health and safety with emphasis on recommendations, regulations, and standards from appropriate agencies such as OSHA, CDC, TJC, and other relevant agencies.
Education Coordinator
- Develops, coordinates, facilitates, and implements orientation programs and other educational programs to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulatory guidelines.
- Develops and facilitates annual required learning for the organization.
- Plans, coordinates, and implements BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC and NRP classes.
- Develops, plans and implements competency testing of personnel following regulatory guidelines
- Develops opportunities for continuing education through in-services and workshops at Grand Itasca.
- Plans, coordinates and evaluates educational programs for nursing staff.
- Monitors physician and nurse compliance with the educational requirements of the educational programs.
- Seeks and pursues opportunities for internal and external clinical educational programs for hospital staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Registered Nurse with current licensure in the State of Minnesota.
- Minimum of three years nursing care experience.
- Skills in investigation analyses, data collection and report writing are essential.
- Strong organizational and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to be detailed oriented.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team.
