Billing Specialist- Washington, DC
Beacon Hill is working with an organization seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Legal Billing Specialist to support its finance and legal operations team. This role is ideal for a professional with experience in legal billing and invoicing, who demonstrates strong analytical skills, accuracy, and an understanding of law firm or legal department billing practices. The Legal Billing Specialist will manage the full billing lifecycle in accordance with client guidelines, engagement letters, and internal accounting policies.
Key Responsibilities:
* Prepare, review, and distribute accurate and timely legal invoices in compliance with client billing guidelines, rate structures, and engagement terms.
* Process prebills, make attorney and timekeeper edits as needed, and finalize invoices through legal billing and accounting systems.
* Ensure billing activity aligns with client agreements, matter budgets, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
* Collaborate with attorneys, legal assistants, and finance staff to resolve billing questions and ensure accurate matter setup and time entry.
* Research and resolve billing discrepancies, reductions, and rejections, providing clear documentation and follow-up.
* Submit invoices through client e-billing platforms and monitor invoice status, including appeals and resubmissions.
* Track accounts receivable, monitor payment activity, and assist with follow-up on outstanding balances.
* Support month-end and year-end close processes by reconciling billing data and generating reports as needed.
* Maintain compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and legal billing best practices.
* Provide responsive, professional support to internal stakeholders and external clients regarding billing inquiries.
