This role is for a part-time Endocrinologist at our organization, dedicated to delivering comprehensive endocrine care to veterans. Part-Time Endocrinologist (23 hours/week) - New York, NY

Our organization operates the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System (NYHHCS), which consists of multiple medical facilities, including a major center in Manhattan, locations in Brooklyn, the St. Albans campus in Queens, and two Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). NYHHCS is recognized as an academic institution with active teaching and research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

This part-time Endocrinologist position is based at the Manhattan VA Medical Center and aligns with our mission to provide compassionate and excellent care to veterans. The role involves both inpatient and outpatient endocrinology services.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Diagnosing and treating a variety of endocrine disorders, such as diabetes, thyroid issues, adrenal conditions, and pituitary disorders.
  2. Delivering comprehensive endocrine care to veteran patients.
  3. Conducting outpatient clinic visits and inpatient consultations.
  4. Creating personalized treatment plans in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
  5. Ordering, performing, and interpreting relevant diagnostic tests and procedures.
  6. Educating patients on managing their conditions, making lifestyle changes, and preventive care.
  7. Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions.
  8. Supervising and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows.
  9. Engaging in research activities to enhance medical knowledge in endocrinology.
  10. Maintaining accurate and complete medical records in accordance with VA policies.

This position qualifies for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which offers student loan repayment assistance. Approval, award amounts (up to $200,000), and eligibility periods (ranging from one to five years) apply.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA policy.
  • Doctor of Medicine degree or equivalent, obtained from a school recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion.
  • A current, unrestricted medical or surgical license in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, leading to board certification eligibility.
