Job Summary:
The Tribal Court Clerk is responsible for performing a variety of administrative and clerical duties to support the Moapa Tribal Court's daily operations. This position involves maintaining court records, scheduling hearings, assisting the Tribal Judge, and ensuring the smooth processing of court cases in compliance with Tribal, federal, and state laws. The Court Clerk serves as the primary point of contact for attorneys, Tribal members, and other individuals involved in court proceedings.
Duties:
- Prepare, file, and maintain accurate records of all court proceedings, including case files, dockets, and legal documents.
- Schedule and coordinate hearings, trials, and other court-related meetings.
- Assist the Tribal Judge during court sessions by recording minutes, administering oaths, and managing exhibits.
- Process and file legal documents such as complaints, motions, orders, and judgments.
- Maintain and manage the confidentiality of court records and ensure secure handling of sensitive information.
- Issue summonses, subpoenas, warrants, and other court orders as directed by the Tribal Judge.
- Provide information and assistance to attorneys, law enforcement, Tribal members, and the general public regarding court procedures and case statuses.
- Collect, record, and process court fees, fines, and other payments in accordance with established procedures.
- Ensure compliance with court rules, policies, and legal regulations.
- Assist in preparing reports, statistical data, and other documents required by the Tribal Judge or Tribal Council.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support court operations.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Legal Studies, or a related field preferred.
- Prior clerical or administrative experience in a court, legal, or government setting preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience with case management software is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in handling sensitive legal matters.
- Knowledge of Tribal sovereignty and legal jurisdiction is desirable.
- Must pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
