Basic Functions and Scope of Responsibility


The Membership Specialist plays a vital role as the first point of contact for members, program participants, and guests. This position supports front desk operations and ensures an exceptional customer experience that reflects the mission and values of the YMCA. Success in this role requires professionalism, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to serving the community.


Role Responsibilities


  • Provide exceptional and welcoming customer service at all times

  • Greet and check in members, program participants, and guests

  • Accurately process registrations, payments, and membership sales

  • Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries about programs, schedules, and memberships

  • Promote YMCA memberships and programs with enthusiasm and care

  • Complete shift-end reports and reconcile daily cash transactions

  • Open and close the facility in accordance with YMCA procedures and scheduled hours

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked front desk area

  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth daily operations

  • Stay current with YMCA policies, programs, and system updates

  • Model the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility


Education, Experience & Training


  • Minimum age: 16

  • Customer service experience preferred

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Dependable and detail-oriented

  • Problem-solving mindset and a team player

  • Proficient in computer operations, including CRM software and appointment scheduling systems.

  • CPR, AED and First Aid certification obtained within 30 days of employment

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively.

  • Must have high level of alertness, concentration, and initiative.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; occasionally stoop/bend.

  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
