Job DescriptionPosition Overview

Our organization, located in the picturesque Tucson, Arizona, is seeking an outpatient behavioral health integrated psychiatrist. This role is part of the Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System (SAVAHCS), which serves as the primary teaching affiliate for the University of Arizona's Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. The selected individual will also need to qualify for a faculty position at the University of Arizona.

The facility boasts a stunning 150-acre campus that provides a comprehensive array of medical and mental health services for Veterans. This includes a 31-bed inpatient psychiatry unit, a 25-bed residential rehabilitation program for mental health, intensive outpatient services, and programs for the homeless. Tucson is an ideal location for families and outdoor enthusiasts, offering activities such as hiking, cycling, and running, along with a vibrant cultural scene and a connection to a prestigious university. Role Description

As a psychiatrist within the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) at SAVAHCS, you will deliver outpatient care to Veterans experiencing mental health challenges. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and clinical pharmacists. Each psychiatrist is supported by a Care Coordinator who manages walk-in patients, addresses patient inquiries, and assists as needed. Initial consultations are allocated 90 minutes, while follow-up appointments are set for 30 minutes. Part-time psychiatrists will be scheduled for 15 clinical hours weekly.

This position involves a partnership with Banner University Medical Center (BUMC), where you will spend 20 hours per week at SAVAHCS in the BHIP and another 20 hours at BUMC's south campus and whole health clinic. Compensation and benefits will be adjusted according to the part-time schedule.

Work Schedule

Monday to Friday, with hours from either 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Board certification in psychiatry is required.
  • An active and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state is necessary.
  • A Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent qualification in medicine or osteopathic medicine is essential.
  • Completion of a residency program in Psychiatry is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in adult outpatient psychiatry addressing a range of mental health conditions.
  • Familiarity with working alongside Veterans and/or service members is advantageous.

Compensation and Benefits

Our organization offers a comprehensive rewards package, including:

  • Salary: Competitive pay with an annual performance bonus and regular salary increments, ranging from $250,000 to $300,000 per year.

Facility Overview

The Tucson VA Medical Center is a 295-bed facility that provides training, primary care, and specialized health services across various medical fields for eligible Veterans. It serves as the flagship of the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS), which caters to over 170,000 Veterans across eight counties in Southern Arizona, including the medical center in Tucson and seven Community Based Outpatient Clinics.

This Joint Commission-accredited, level 1a complexity teaching hospital offers tertiary-level care. The SAVAHCS features a beautiful 150-acre campus with a full spectrum of medical and mental health services for Veterans, including a 31-bed inpatient psychiatry/substance use acute treatment unit, a 25-bed residential rehabilitation program for substance use disorders and PTSD, intensive outpatient programs, and various homeless initiatives. The SAVAHCS also operates a 24-hour emergency department and hosts several regional referral centers of excellence, including the Polytrauma Network Site and the Southwest Blind Rehabilitation Center. Annually, nearly 1,000 physician and health trainees engage in training programs at the SAVAHCS.
