This opportunity is for an experienced Registered Nurse with a solid background in medical-surgical nursing, based in Leawood, KS. The position is on a Surgical Specialty Unit (SSU) that excels in high-quality post-operative patient care, operating within a fast-paced, supportive environment. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate comprehensive post-operative nursing care for up to 20 private patient beds.
- Perform advanced clinical procedures including ostomy management (including irrigation), NGT placement, Foley catheter and central line care, JP drains, wound care, IV starts, blood administration, and nutritional supplementation including TPN and G/J tubes.
- Utilize telemetry, EKG, and other monitoring tools such as capnostream machines and bladder scanners to assess patient conditions.
- Apply expertise in med-surg protocols while adapting to a patient ratio generally at 4:1 (or 5:1 with a patient care tech).
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams supported by unit secretaries and techs.
- Maintain accurate documentation using MediTech electronic medical records.
- Work within scheduled shifts including every third weekend, plus two Mondays and Fridays per 4-week period.
Qualifications and Experience
- Current RN licensure with proven med-surg experience.
- Competence in advanced post-operative care with emphasis on complex procedures and patient monitoring.
- Required certification: Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Ability to work in a high-paced surgical specialty environment with a focus on quality and safety.
