Our client is seeking a Senior Electrical Controls Engineer to support, program, troubleshoot, and upgrade industrial automation systems across multiple facilities. This role is ideal for a hands‑on engineer with deep PLC/HMI/SCADA experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to mentor technicians and apprentices.

The Electrical Controls Engineer provides technical and engineering support for automated industrial machinery and electronic control systems. This includes programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, retrofitting, and training across multiple facilities.

Responsibilities:

Controls Engineering & Automation

  • Create and modify database tables in MS SQL Server.
  • Read, create, and modify electrical schematics, fluid power diagrams, and P&ID schematics (IEC/NFPA standards)
  • Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLCs using: Siemens SCL, Statement List, Graph 7, FBD, Allen Bradley Ladder Logic & Structured Text, Additional languages: Visual Basic, C++, C#, Java, Python, SQL.
  • Develop and modify HMI applications (Siemens, Allen Bradley, WinCC Flex, PanelBuilder 32)
  • Develop and modify SCADA applications (Siemens WinCC, Inductive Automation)

Commissioning, Troubleshooting & Upgrades

  • Diagnose and repair machinery from any manufacturer.
  • Install, commission, repair, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and industrial communication networks.
  • Troubleshoot industrial machinery using oscilloscopes, meters, megohmmeters, calibrators, thermal imagers, vibration analyzers, and data loggers.
  • Retrofit obsolete controls and upgrade legacy systems with no direct replacements.

Training & Leadership

  • Supervise mechatronics/controls technician apprentices and seasonal interns.
  • Train technicians and apprentices in: Instrumentation calibration, reading programming logic, troubleshooting electrical control systems, fluid power systems.

Operational Support

  • Travel to multiple locations as needed.
  • Source materials for projects and repairs.
  • Maintain documentation, drawings, and archives.
  • Support production teams across multiple facilities.
  • Ensure all work meets safety standards and PPE requirements.

Qualifications/Must Haves:

  • Ability to travel between facilities.
  • 10+ years of direct experience in industrial automation.
  • Strong experience with HMI/SCADA development.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex schematics and programming logic.
  • Expert‑level proficiency in Siemens and Allen Bradley PLC programming.
  • Associate of Applied Science in Electronics Engineering or Computer Science with programming emphasis (Equivalent experience + certifications accepted)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical.
  • State‑issued electrical trades license.
  • CAP or CCST certification (nice to have)
  • Siemens or Allen Bradley programming certification.
  • Experience in multi‑facility manufacturing environments.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 60 ft.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and crouch.
  • Ability to work in environments with heat, cold, noise, fumes, and electrical hazards.

Work Environment:

  • Loud noise levels typical of industrial manufacturing.
  • Work may occur in extreme temperatures, high places, or confined spaces.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical hazards, airborne particles, and industrial conditions.
