Job Description
Job Description Are you the coach who turns good teams into great ones?
If you thrive on unlocking performance, solving tough problems at the source, and building a zero-defect mindset, this role is for you. As our Lean Manufacturing Cell Leader, you’ll own a second-shift production area—driving safety, quality, flow, and continuous improvement every step of the way.
Work hours: Monday–Thursday, 7:00 p.m.–5:00 a.m.; overtime as business needs arise.
The challenge
Picture this: an urgent customer need, a tight window, and a complex assembly. You quickly verify the cell is set—tools kitted, materials staged, standards visible. You assign work, reinforce safe behaviors, and then tackle a bottleneck with a quick root-cause huddle. By shift end, output meets plan, defects are down, and a new standard is posted.
What you’ll own
- Front-line leadership for manufacturing processes—coaching Team Members and serving as the go-to problem solver.
- Strict adherence to safety and housekeeping practices; build a culture where safe work is nonnegotiable.
- Output and quality—achieve maximum production without sacrificing standards.
- Task assignment and crew balancing for cost-effective, productive execution.
- Availability of the right tools, fixtures, and materials at the right time.
- Training, daily feedback, and periodic performance appraisals to grow capability.
- Small-group continuous improvement and Kaizen events delivering measurable results.
- Accurate, complete documentation of cell performance.
How you’ll improve the system
- Define optimal processes for existing and new products—methods, standards, equipment, tooling, flow, and facilities.
- Lead root-cause analysis; engage Manufacturing Engineering and other partners to implement durable fixes quickly.
- Continuously scan for improvement opportunities; create analyses, layouts, and cost comparisons to justify change.
- Audit and refine standards to strengthen data integrity.
- Ensure compliance with MPS, WPS, Router Documentation & Work Instructions, ISO standards, JLG Quality System Procedures, and EHS requirements.
- Drive corrective actions for quality risks; modify machines, processes, materials, or assembly as needed.
- Enhance inspection strategies to improve finished product quality and reduce cost.
- Investigate defects and recommend updates to product or quality standards where warranted.
- Advise Materials Management on technical aspects of purchasing and help qualify new sources.
- Contribute to strategic manufacturing planning. Other duties as assigned.
What it takes
- 1+ year leading teams in a manufacturing or production setting.
- BS in Operations Management or related field preferred.
- Team Coordinator Assessment a plus.
- Lean/Six Sigma or Project Management certifications preferred.
- Lotus Notes email and JDE experience helpful; you’ll be expected to attain proficiency within three months.
- Completion of Team and Continuous Improvement Training (or commitment to complete upon hire).
- Project planning/organization strength; clear communication; sharp problem-solving.
- Hands-on technical support ability on the line.
- Working knowledge of CFM, pull systems, Kaizen, Poke‑yoke/Poka‑yoke, Lean Manufacturing, Toyota Production System, Just-in-Time, time standards, ergonomics, EHS, ISO 9000, computer literacy, and assembly manufacturing.
