As we continue to innovate, we continue to improve both our tools and the ability of Blaze Users to push science and engineering to new levels.

Job Summary

Blaze Metrics is seeking an Opto‑Mechanical Assembly and Test Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the precision assembly, alignment, and functional testing of opto‑mechanical subassemblies and systems used in Blaze Metrics PAT instruments.

This position supports both production manufacturing and engineering development activities and requires exceptional attention to detail, excellent fine motor skills, and comfort working with small, delicate optical and mechanical components—often under magnification. The ideal candidate is methodical, organized, quality‑focused, and capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, align, and test opto‑mechanical subassemblies and finished instruments
  • Perform precision assembly of small optical and mechanical components
  • Clean, handle, and install optical components using controlled procedures
  • Work under a microscope or magnification for extended periods
  • Execute detailed work instructions and test procedures accurately
  • Inspect incoming optical and mechanical components for quality and conformance
  • Maintain and operate specialized fixtures, alignment tools, and test equipment
  • Track parts, assemblies, and inventory using MRP/ERP systems
  • Support engineering with prototype builds, process development, troubleshooting, rework, and failure analysis

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional attention to detail; highly methodical, organized, and quality‑driven
  • Experience assembling small, precision mechanical components and assemblies. Experience with opto‑mechanical assembly, optical alignment, or laboratory instrumentation is strongly preferred but not required for candidates with demonstrated high‑precision assembly skills
  • Hands‑on experience working with optical components and opto‑mechanical assemblies
  • Excellent fine motor skills and strong hand‑eye coordination
  • Comfort working under a microscope or magnification for precision tasks
  • Proven ability to follow detailed written work instructions and procedures without deviation
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and spatial awareness
  • Ability to read and interpret 2D part drawings and assembly drawings
  • Discipline in controlled handling, cleaning, and inspection of sensitive components
  • Experience using precision tools and measurement equipment
  • Strong commitment to workmanship, traceability, and clear documentation
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Proficient English verbal and written communication
  • Comfortable working in Windows‑based environments and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems is a plus

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate preferred
  • Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience in precision mechanical or electromechanical assembly, more experience preferred.
  • Experience in a regulated, high‑quality manufacturing environment is a plus

Physical and Work Requirements

  • Ability to perform fine, repetitive hand motions with a high degree of precision
  • Ability to work under magnification for extended periods
  • Ability to handle small, delicate components with sustained focus and care
  • Ability to maintain concentration during detailed, methodical work
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during assembly and test tasks

Benefits:

  • $24 - $35 per hour (depending on experience)
  • Paid time off (PTO), sick leave, and paid holidays
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Life insurance
