The Village of Wintersville, Ohio, is a dedicated community organization committed to enhancing the quality of life for our residents through efficient governance, sustainable development, and community engagement. We are seeking a full-time Water Distribution Operator. A Class I certification or higher is strongly encouraged, though not required; candidates must have a working knowledge of water distribution systems.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7a.m. - 3:30pm shift. Weekends and Callouts may be needed for emergencies and inclement weather.
Pay is based on experience.

Job Purpose
This position is responsible for operating, maintaining, and monitoring the water treatment and distribution systems to ensure the delivery of safe and reliable drinking water to the community. This position supports compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and contributes to the efficient operation of the Village's water infrastructure.
Essential Duties
- Operate and monitor water treatment and distribution equipment, including pumps, valves, meters, and filtration systems.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on water distribution components.
- Collect and test water samples to ensure compliance with water quality standards.
- Record operational data and prepare reports required for regulatory compliance.
- Respond to system alarms, service calls, and emergencies; troubleshoot and resolve issues promptly.
- Assist with the repair and replacement of water mains, service lines, pipes, and related infrastructure.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, water quality testing, and system performance.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures during daily operations and emergency response.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Medium to high physical activity, including frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and occasional climbing or confined‑space work.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; manual dexterity for tools and equipment; visual acuity for gauges and system monitoring.
- Work occurs indoors and outdoors at treatment plants, pump stations, and distribution sites, with exposure to chemicals, noise, and varying weather conditions.
- Position may require evenings, weekends, overtime, and on‑call response for emergencies.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two (2) years of experience working in a water department or water facility.
- Basic understanding of water distribution systems and water system operations.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to make sound, independent decisions, including last‑minute or emergency decisions.
- Ability to follow directions and work independently or as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of budgets, ordering parts, and managing materials.
- Team‑oriented mindset with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, contractors, and other municipalities.
Licenses & Certifications
- A water operator certification through the Ohio EPA is not required at hire but is preferred. The Village will support the employee in obtaining certification while employed.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- CDL is not required but is preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Availability for callouts related to water system issues.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and reliability in all duties.
