Salary Range: $54,000 - $86,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

We are collaborating with manufacturing firms in Walker that are seeking skilled Tool Makers. Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, assemble, and repair precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Operate conventional and CNC machining equipment, including lathes, mills, and grinders.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings to determine specifications.
  • Perform precise measurements and inspections using various metrology instruments.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in tooling, implementing corrective actions.
  • Select appropriate materials and heat treatments for tool construction.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize tool design and performance.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Proven experience (e.g., 5+ years) as a Tool Maker or in a precision machining role.
  • Proficiency in operating manual and CNC machine tools including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDMs.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints, schematics, and GDT.
  • Expertise in using a wide range of precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, CMMs).
  • Solid understanding of metallurgy, material properties, and heat treatment processes for tooling.
  • Successful completion of a formal apprenticeship or a relevant technical degree/certification in machining or tool & die making.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Advanced CAD/CAM software proficiency (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam)
  • Experience with various welding techniques for tool repair and fabrication
  • Knowledge of heat treatment processes and equipment
  • Proficiency in operating EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) equipment
