Job DescriptionWe Grow Healthy KidsThe Oak Park River Forest Infant Welfare Society (IWS) Children’s Clinic is a full-service pediatric clinic. We provide quality, affordable medical, dental, and behavioral child health care services, supporting children from birth through age 18 from a single clinic staffed by diverse professionals who care.POSITION TITLE: Medical AssistantESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Assists the medical provider with medical assistant functions andperforms front desk administrative and operational activities.POSITION REPORTS TO: Clinic Director and Medical DirectorMEDICAL ASSISTANT PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES (25%-30%)Assist the providers in the following areas:
- Prepares patient for clinical exam/visit, including the collection of typical patient vital metrics (blood pressure, temperature, height, weight etc.)
- Follows through with post-visit duties including follow-up of referrals and patient cancellations
- Input immunization data in ICARE
- Vaccine administration and ordering
- Input immunization data in ICARE
- Provides service in a manner that is appropriate for the patient’s age; demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to meet the patient’s physical, psychosocial, educational and safety needs
- Ensure all patient records and related documents are managed and maintained timely, accurately, and consistent with all HIPAA and related regulations and requirements
- Ensure compliance and attention to all corporate policies and procedures
Uphold and consistently always represent the values and mission of the organization. Always represent the organization in a highly professional manner RECEPTIONIST PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES (70%-75%)Perform all duties for smooth operation of front office operations including:
- Greets patients and answers phones
- Schedules and changes appointments
- Verifies insurance eligibility
- Receives payments
- Prepares/scans/files paperwork for dental, medical, and social service visits
- Follows up on cancelled and no-show appointments
- Prepares daily statistical reports
- Maintains the spirit of teamwork in the effort to provide a caring respectful environment for the patient, families, and clinic staff
- Responsible for performing other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the public
- Clear thinker, able to work independently, prioritize, problem solve and organize
- Ability to work with a diverse patient population
- Skilled in phlebotomy, pediatric immunizations and the proper knowledge and use of medical devices and equipment.
- Read, write, and maintain patient records and related administrative documentation
- Utilize computers in the collection, management, and reporting of patient records
- Demonstrated success in managing difficult patient situations
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma
- Medical assistant certification required
- Phlebotomy certificate a plus
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Experience in a family practice/pediatric health care facility a plus
- Knowledge of Greenway Prime Suites electronic medical records software a plus
Full-time position including 1 Saturday per month
