Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Responsible for assisting with diagnostic tests to using electrocardiograms to capture patient heart rhythm and rate.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform EKG tracings for Christiana and Wilmington Hospitals and ED triage

Transfer EKG to Powerchart

Create order in Powerchart for outpatient EKG

Sign as performed by EKG in Powerchart

Cleans and stocks EKG machine for critical care units.

Perform pacemaker device interrogations in the ED.

Work the unmatched EKG list in Powerchart, create order as necessary.

Respond to STAT, RTT and timed EKGs per department policy.

Demonstrates skills and knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs, and to provide the care needed.

Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor, lead tech and manager in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.

Performs other related duties as required.

Shift varies:

  • Casual employment, 8 hours per week with opportunity for more hours due to staff coverage.
  • Must be flexible to cover day/evening as needed.

SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:

Frequent contact with physicians, patients, nursing staff, various labs, clerical, visitor and families in performing EKG test, coordinating daily workload.

Director, Manager and Lead Tech

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School graduate or its equivalent
  • Basic CCU in-service and medical terminology. EKG experience preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of EKG machine program format
  • Knowledge of office equipment and machines
  • Ability to learn departmental policies and procedures
  • Ability to be efficient and accurate
  • Ability to enter and retrieve information on computer
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments
  • Ability to exercise judgment, tact and diplomacy
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to assist with basic EKG training for other departments
  • Ability to use/wear communication devices daily as required

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Yearly EKG competency and critical results review w/certificate of completion. BEAT class training upon hire/transfer certificate of completion and CPR w/AED certification (2years)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Bending, stooping, standing, walking, and reaching while performing tests.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

General pleasant office environment, can be stressful at times.

ED triage room can be stressful at times.
