South Texas Periodontal Associates - a private owned periodontal office is seeking an energetic, reliable, hardworking, positive, out-going and experienced full-time Surgical Dental Assistant. The candidates must be registered with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certified to be considered for this position. You will play a vital role in keeping our office running smoothly while providing quality patient care. You MUST be a Team player and able to multi task. Dentrix Ascend and surgical experience are preferred.

Education/Certification:

  • Texas Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Hours of Operation:

  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 7:30am to 5:30pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the doctor in all chairside tasks related to dental surgery - retraction, suctioning, isolation, airway protection, patient monitoring
  • Assisting the doctor in the set-up, administration and recording of procedures under local anesthesia, nitrous sedation and IV sedation
  • Assisting the doctor in the passing of dental instrumentation and dental implant parts and components
  • Providing pre- and post-operative care and instructions to patients
  • Preparing materials for impressions and taking dental x-rays, as directed by the doctor
  • Sterilizing and disinfecting instruments and equipment, preparing trays of instruments for procedures
  • Assisting in obtaining medical clearances from patients’ physicians
  • Being familiar and comply with all Health and Safety rules and guidelines on infection control
  • Performing additional office duties as needed to include scheduling and receiving patients, ordering supplies, and records management
  • Additional duties as assigned per state regulations or licensing requirements

Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Surgical Assistant is required
