Job Description:
At Kentucky Equine Medical Associates, we specialize in providing outstanding veterinary care for thoroughbred racehorses. Our dedicated team is passionate about enhancing the performance and well-being of these elite athletes. We are currently seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our dynamic team and contribute to the health and performance of these majestic animals. This position will travel between Henderson, KY during the summer racing season and south to Hot Springs, AR for the winter months. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Assisting veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and medical procedures for thoroughbred racehorses
- Handling and restraining horses safely and effectively
- Maintaining a clean and organized work environment, including office areas and veterinary vehicles.
- Preparing medications and procedures as directed by your supervising veterinarian.
- Performing routine lab work and maintaining laboratory equipment
- Monitoring horses for signs of illness or distress and reporting observations to the veterinary team
- Maintaining accurate medical records and documentation of exams and reports
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in equine veterinary technology is a plus
- Previous experience working with horses, specifically thoroughbreds, is preferred
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and documentation
- A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
