Title: Microtransit Van Driver
The Van Driver is responsible for operating commercial vans throughout the Luzerne County Transportation Authority (LCTA) service area, providing safe, courteous, and efficient transportation for residents. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing, in accordance with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate LCTA vans safely, adhering to all traffic laws and Authority policies and procedures.
- Follow daily schedules and assigned routes as dispatched.
- Maintain a polite, respectful, and safe environment for all passengers.
- Provide passenger assistance as needed to ensure a safe and comfortable ride, including:
- Operating vehicle lifts for individuals using mobility devices
- Bending, reaching, or kneeling to secure mobility devices using a four-point securement system
- Maintain clear communication with dispatch staff via radio or phone, reporting changes, incidents, or delays promptly.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Report any accidents or incidents immediately and follow proper documentation procedures.
- Accurately complete and submit daily logs and reports.
Qualifications and Skills
- Ability to operate all LCTA van models.
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Successful completion of a Pennsylvania criminal background check.
- Must obtain PA Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI fingerprint clearance.
- Pass pre-employment drug screening and physical examination.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience driving large vans or similar commercial vehicles preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, or squatting required to secure mobility devices.
- Physical ability to assist passengers in and out of vehicles, including navigating stairs or ramps.
- Must be able to push/pull mobility devices up inclines or down declines.
- Visual and auditory ability sufficient to meet PA driver’s license requirements.
- Must be able to work up to 9-hour shifts, Monday through Saturday, between the hours of 5 AM and 11:00 PM.
- Daily travel required within the LCTA service area.
