Position Title: Commercial Financial Analyst
Department: Finance
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer / Finance Manager

Work location: Newport, Minnesota


Position Summary:
The Sales and Marketing Financial Analyst is responsible for providing financial insights and data-driven recommendations to support the sales and marketing teams. This role involves analyzing sales trends, marketing campaign performance, and financial outcomes to optimize business strategies and maximize profitability. The analyst collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between financial objectives and commercial initiatives. This role will also support royalty income analysis, pricing and breeding budgets and forecasting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze sales and marketing data to assess performance, identify trends, and forecast future results.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support strategic planning and decision-making for sales and marketing initiatives.
  • Prepare regular reports on key metrics such as ROI, customer acquisition cost, and sales pipeline performance.
  • Partner with sales and marketing teams to evaluate campaign effectiveness and recommend budget allocations.
  • Monitor expenses and variances, ensuring adherence to financial targets and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Support the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes for sales and marketing departments.
  • Familiarity with pricing and margin analysis to support decision making, along with customer profitability and segmentation.
  • Assists in managing and analyzing royalty rates, in-licensed and out-licensed product profitability, as well as understanding of costing data.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior management in a clear and actionable manner.
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis to support business initiatives, pricing strategies, and ROI assessments.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA or relevant certification is a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience in financial analysis
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with strong proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and financial modeling.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI).
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with the capacity to translate complex data into actionable insights.
  • Communicate financial data to non-financial stakeholders offering clear and actionable guidance.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in performing financial analysis within sales and marketing environments
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
This position is based in Minnesota with partial work-from-home eligibility and occasional out-of-state travel. It requires extended periods of sitting or standing at a desk and may occasionally involve lifting up to 30 pounds.
