General Definition and Conditions of Work:
- Performs inspections of residential structures to ensure compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.
- Performs inspections related to stormwater management and erosion and sediment control.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:
- Assists with clerical work including completion of reports and notices, answering telephones, interaction with contractors, property owners, developers, and representatives of other local, state, or federal agencies, both in the field and in the office.
- Conducts field inspections of residential building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems at various stages of construction and renovation.
- Ensures compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC) and other applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
Education, Experience and Licenses:
- Completion of a standard high school course, or equivalent GED program.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in building trades, construction, code enforcement, or land development.
- Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector certification and Stormwater Management Inspector certification.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a combination Residential Inspector certification from Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development.
- Any combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Valid driver's license.
