Job Description
Position Summary
The Respiratory Therapist will deliver high‑quality respiratory care in a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center. This position requires strong clinical experience with both adult and pediatric populations and the ability to work collaboratively within a large interdisciplinary care team. The RT will support inpatient care at the IMC and ICU level, participate in advanced respiratory interventions, and float to additional units as staffing requires.
Key Responsibilities
Respiratory Care & Procedures
- Provide aerosolized medication therapy.
- Perform volume expansion, airway clearance techniques, and sputum inductions.
- Provide tracheostomy care and management.
- Utilize non-invasive ventilation (BiPAP/CPAP), high-flow nasal cannula, and mechanical ventilation.
- Support IMC/ICU-level ventilation management.
- Assist with bronchoscopy, extubation, and intubation support.
- Perform ABG draws and interpret arterial blood gas results.
Floating Expectations
- Travelers are first to float.
- May float to multiple units or locations based on staffing needs.
- If primary department census drops, shifts will be reassigned to alternate units.
Minimum Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 2 years recent RT experience.
- Must have pediatric and adult experience.
- Must have experience in an Academic Level 1 Trauma Center or similar-sized hospital.
- First-time travelers: Preferred experience but some units accept.
Education
- Graduate of a CoARC‑accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.
Licensure & Certifications
- Wisconsin Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license – required upon hire.
- CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) – Required
- RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) – Required
- BLS (AHA only) – Required
*Offered pay rate will be based on education, experience, and healthcare credentials.
