Job Description

The Inventory Specialist maintains accurate inventory levels by receiving, storing, and issuing materials, parts, tools, and supplies within a manufacturing environment. This role ensures all incoming and outgoing shipments are properly documented, labeled, and inspected, while operating material-handling equipment such as sit-down forklifts and overhead cranes. The Inventory Specialist supports production by efficiently pulling orders, running inventory reports, and keeping storage areas clean, organized, and compliant with company standards.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and count stock items, ensuring all parts and materials are accurately recorded to maintain correct inventory levels.
  • Stock items using identification tags, stamps, electric marking tools, ERP systems, RF scanners, or other labeling equipment.
  • Run inventory reports to monitor stock levels, reconcile discrepancies, and support planning and production needs.
  • Store items in warehouse, tool rooms, supply rooms, and other designated areas in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Inspect incoming parts and materials, documenting any damage, shortages, or nonconformance to specifications.
  • Verify the accuracy of incoming and outgoing shipments against work orders, bills of lading, and shipping orders.
  • Prepare and process work orders, bills of lading, and shipping documentation in accordance with company procedures.
  • Issue tools, equipment, and supplies to internal personnel as needed, ensuring proper tracking and documentation.
  • Load and unload materials using a sit-down forklift in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Operate an overhead crane to move heavy materials and equipment in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Perform order pulling and picking for production and shipping, ensuring correct items and quantities are selected.
  • Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to uphold a safe and orderly work environment.
  • Report broken tools, damaged equipment, or safety concerns promptly to ensure timely repairs and safe operations.
  • Support shipping activities, including preparing items for dispatch and verifying shipping information.
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure smooth material flow and on-time delivery to production.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of inventory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency operating a sit-down forklift for loading, unloading, and material movement.
  • Experience using ERP systems and RF scanners for inventory tracking and labeling.
  • Hands-on experience with order pulling and picking in a warehouse or manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to operate an overhead crane safely to move heavy materials and equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail when counting, inspecting, and recording stock items.
  • Ability to verify accuracy of incoming and outgoing shipments against documentation.
  • Basic understanding of work orders, bills of lading, and shipping documentation.
  • Capability to maintain clean, organized storage areas and follow safety procedures.
  • Comfort working in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment on assigned shifts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Heavy forklift experience, including operating equipment up to approximately 36,000-pound capacity.
  • Experience operating reach trucks in a warehouse or manufacturing setting.
  • Experience operating cherry pickers for high-level picking and storage.
  • Familiarity with shipping processes and procedures in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Ability to adapt to process changes and new facility layouts as operations grow.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with production, shipping, and other teams.
  • Reliability in following established procedures and meeting productivity expectations.

Work Environment

This role is based in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment designed for comfort and safety. Employees work on structured shifts, with a first shift typically running from 5:00 AM to 2:30 PM and a second shift from 2:00 PM to 12:30 AM. The position involves regular use of material-handling equipment such as sit-down forklifts, overhead cranes, and, where applicable, reach trucks and cherry pickers. Storage areas, tool rooms, and supply rooms are organized to support efficient inventory flow. The facility emphasizes cleanliness and orderly workspaces, with routine cleaning of supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas. Operations use ERP systems and RF scanners to manage inventory and documentation. The team will be transitioning to a new, modern facility in the near future, located near Fry Road, offering an updated layout and infrastructure to further enhance the work environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX 77065.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
