The Greater Manchester Region employs around 2,500 individuals and encompasses Manchester Memorial Hospital, a community facility with 249 beds, Rockville General, a 102-bed campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. This region caters to approximately 300,000 residents across 19 towns.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Using the nursing process, you will deliver high-quality direct and indirect patient-centered care. You will coordinate patient care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team. It is essential to communicate the patient's clinical status appropriately, responding swiftly and accurately to any changes in condition or treatment response. You will demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan and possess the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for the patient population served. Additionally, you will promote the nursing profession and professional practice through supportive interactions with colleagues. This position reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
COMPETENCIES:
- Effective communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
- Basic computer proficiency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients' conditions and care needs, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.
- Evaluate and manage pain, utilizing appropriate tools and techniques, while educating patients and families about pain management. Ensure documentation reflects assessments, interventions, and evaluations of effectiveness.
- Develop and adjust individualized care plans based on assessments and patient responses, collaborating with other disciplines as necessary.
- Adhere to the five medication rights to minimize medication errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on patient age and clinical condition.
- Provide all aspects of patient care in a manner that prioritizes safety and promotes positive outcomes.
- Document the nursing process and responses to care promptly using the appropriate tools.
- Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under pressure. Utilize critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.
- Create and implement educational plans for patients and families based on identified learning needs, evaluating the effectiveness of the learning process.
- Demonstrate autonomous practice aligned with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional growth. Act as a professional role model and mentor.
- Understand growth and development principles across the lifespan and provide age-appropriate care, interpreting patient data to identify specific needs.
- Assist physicians with procedures in the peri-anesthesia care setting, including cardioversion, peripheral and central monitoring line insertion, and epidural catheter placement.
- Exhibit knowledge of airway management and the ability to utilize appropriate equipment.
- Assess cardio-respiratory systems for changes and provide suitable treatment.
- Demonstrate knowledge of anesthetic drugs, their actions, and potential side effects.
- Provide accurate and relevant reports on patient conditions for safe transitions of care.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
- Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required upon hire or must be obtained during the introductory orientation period, maintaining clinical competency throughout employment in this role.
- Critical care experience is preferred.
