ACLS Mission and Overview

Project Summary
Reporting to the Communications Manager and working closely with the Communications team, as well as program and operations staff across the organization, this internship will focus on enhancing ACLS digital marketing strategy with a focus on advertising, analytics, and audience engagement. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to learn about nonprofit marketing campaigns and data-driven decision making. The intern will gain valuable skills and experience in digital advertising, audience development, reporting and analytics, campaign optimization, and presentation of insights for stakeholders.
This role requires 20-25 hours/week with flexible work hours. The internship will start in January 2026 and run through mid-May.
Responsibilities include:
- Track, compile, and analyze data from digital advertising campaigns (Meta, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Follow up with vendors and learned societies to collect advertising data
- Catalog and maintain records of social media ad and organic post performance, particularly related to ACLS competitions
- Track UTM links and campaign performance in Google Analytics
- Create a standardized template of the measurable impact of ads and program promotion on the ACLS website, social media, and via Mailchimp emails to share with program teams
- Set up and maintain standardized reports in Google Analytics and Sprout Social for Communications team
- Make recommendations on digital advertising best practices based on data insights
- Partner with program teams to develop and refine audiences for current and future social media ads
- Run A/B tests and ads for ACLS initiatives, including the Leading Edge Fellowship Program
- Conduct exploratory keyword research to inform digital campaigns
- Research opportunities related to Google Ad Grants and other nonprofit advertising grants
- Present a culminating project/report summarizing findings and recommendations to ACLS leadership and staff
- Perform other communications-related projects as assigned
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled or recently (within past 12 months) completed an undergraduate or graduate program in marketing, advertising, journalism, communications, digital technologies, emerging media, or related field
- Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite and data tools; experience with Google Analytics, Sprout Social, or similar platforms a plus
- Familiarity with paid social media ad platforms (Facebook Ads Manager, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, Google Ads)
- Understanding of target audiences and audience segmentation
- Basic understanding of SEO and keyword research tools (e.g. SEMrush, Google Keyword Planner)
- Highly organized and detail oriented with ability manage priorities, multi-task, advance projects, and meet to and deadlines
- Ability to work collaboratively, as well as independently
- Passion for approaching creative challenges with curiosity and imagination
- Interest in nonprofit communications and in issues facing the humanities and social sciences
- Knowledge of data visualization tools (Tableau, Google Data Studio) a plus
Salary: $25 per hour
