Job Description
Mentor, Marshall Induction Program
Induction is designed to provide a two-year, individualized, job-embedded system of mentoring, support and professional learning that begins in a teacher’s first year of teaching. The Marshall Induction Program supports early career teachers at Summit Public Schools in California in developing across the California Standards for the Teaching Profession through high quality coaching and professional development aligned to Summit’s instructional priorities and the standards provided by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
The Marshall Induction Program is one of the programs offered by Marshall at Summit Public Schools to support early career educators. The continuum of programs from the Marshall Teacher Residency and Marshall Intern Program through the Marshall Induction Program is designed to provide a coherent, individualized, supportive trajectory for early career teachers with a focus on developing the skills, habits, and mindset to be a high-quality, student-centered, data-driven, anti-racist educator. Across all programs, Marshall strives to diversify the teacher workforce and support retention in the profession.
The Induction Mentor plays a critical role in implementing the induction program through in-person observation and coaching of participating teachers, monitoring progress towards goals and credentialing requirements, and collaborating with school leaders to support participating teachers in alignment with school priorities. The Induction Mentor also supports the implementation of the Marshall Intern Program as needed by coaching intern teachers and/or facilitating coursework sessions for interns. As such, the Induction Mentor is a mobile-centric role requiring regular travel between various school sites and locations in support of induction and intern candidates.
The Induction Mentor is part of the Marshall program faculty team, which includes Mentors for the Marshall Intern Program and Marshall Teacher Residency. These teams collaborate to support alignment and coherence across Marshall’s teacher credentialing programs, as well as to support the professional development of all Mentors. Across the team of Induction Mentors, we seek expertise in a variety of credential areas and geographic location to ensure the success of the program for all induction participating teachers and Summit school sites. The Induction Mentor reports directly to the Executive Director of Marshall Credentialing Programs.
