Our client is seeking a Legislative Specialist to support their Public Affairs Strategies Group. This is a full-time, hybrid position, working with a fantastic law firm.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Representing multiple clients as part of a contract lobbying team for state and local issues, primarily in the areas of commerce, education, health and human services, energy, transportation, workforce, commerce, cannabis, gaming, public safety, education and housing.
- Scheduling meetings with elected officials and staff at the State and Municipal level.
- Creating written documents for internal and external use by the PASG Team or clients.
- Attending hearings and taking notes for use by the PASG Team and clients.
- Assisting PASG Team and clients in identifying legislative goals, assessing political climate, and strategy implementation.
- Conducting research and providing briefings on current issues to PASG Team and clients to help drive policy development.
- Creating leave behind one-page briefs or other collateral on the clients issue for distribution to elected officials and staff.
- Creating marketing documents for the group to advertise successes and services.
- Attending campaign fundraisers and events to maintain trusted working relationships with elected officials.
- Attending client conferences, meetings and events outside the Capitol.
- Keeping abreast of latest news and developments pertaining to clients issues and offering strategic advice based on current events; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- B.A. In Political Science, Economics, Communications, or related field.
- 1-3 Years of experience in political work, including campaigns, legislative or municipal staff, and other advocacy work.
- Willingness to travel, across Minnesota and for occasional travel outside of the state.
- Ability to adapt to a fluid work environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Writes clearly and informatively.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to professionally interact with clients, elected officials and legislative staff.
- A reliable and dependable team player; with an ability to work independently.
- Contributes to a positive team spirit and working environment.
