Salary Range: $19.37-$30.64/hour *depending on qualifications


Candidates may be hired as a Correctional Officer I, II, or Senior Correctional Officer depending on qualifications and experience.


If hired, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months of hire.


Requirements:

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Valid state issued driver’s license
  • Eligible to obtain a special police commission as issued by the City of Kansas City, MO police department
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City of Kansas City, MO
  • Previous corrections, security, military, law enforcement, or public safety experience
  • Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills
  • Experience working in structured or high-accountability environments


Job Duties:

  • Monitors residents in custody in all settings
  • Interacts with people in custody, employing effective communication skills and sound decision-making
  • Maintains strict order and discipline among the detained population, while promoting social behavior and supporting rehabilitation
  • Patrols designated areas to prevent unauthorized access and ensure a secure perimeter.
  • Admits and releases those in the custody of the facility
  • Performs complete booking and intake procedures, including fingerprinting, photographs, orientation to the facility, and providing for basic needs during the intake process
  • Receives inmate funds, counts monies, and deposits into the inmate account
  • Prepares comprehensive reports such as incident reports, headcounts, and vehicle use logs
  • Utilizes various reports to verify and ensure accountability for incarcerations and releases accurately
  • Complete written logs as required
