Job SummaryWe are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable International Logistics & Trade Specialist to develop, manage, and maintain a comprehensive international logistics and trade compliance program. This role will ensure compliance with U.S. and Canadian regulatory requirements as well as corporate trade compliance policies. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively across various departments, particularly with operations management, to support and drive compliance efforts throughout the business unit.
Key Responsibilities
- Trade Compliance Operations
- Develop and maintain all U.S. and Canadian trade compliance work instructions and policy procedures.
- Ensure all U.S. and Canadian sites adhere to applicable regulatory requirements and internal trade compliance policies.
- Conduct trade compliance training for employees, focusing on U.S. and Canadian export/import controls and company procedures.
- Partner with site Operations & Logistics Managers to implement effective import/export process controls.
- Determine accurate HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) and ECCN (Export Control Classification Number) classifications for new articles.
- Maintain master HTS and ECCN listings across U.S. and Canadian sites, ensuring regular updates to ERP systems as needed.
- Stay up-to-date with relevant U.S. and Canadian trade compliance regulations.
- Manage and maintain all applicable import/export records.
- Serve as a liaison with Corporate Trade Compliance for all customs-related communications.
- Conduct post-audits and reviews of import/export documentation; initiate corrections with brokers or forwarders as necessary.
- Analyze data from customs and broker systems to monitor risk and ensure compliance (e.g., classification, country of origin, trade agreement usage).
- Administer duty mitigation programs such as duty drawback, including tracking and documentation.
Logistics Operations
- Coordinate and track international shipments across multiple modes (air, ocean, rail, truck).
- Select carriers and manage freight bookings while ensuring cost efficiency and reliability.
- Ensure full compliance with international shipping regulations and customs protocols.
- Prepare and review shipping documents including commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and bills of lading.
- Provide logistics support for engineering, field service, and sales teams.
- Troubleshoot issues with freight forwarders and customs brokers; resolve delays, damages, and holds.
- Offer real-time shipment status updates to internal stakeholders and customers.
- Prepare logistics performance reports and dashboards for leadership review.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts and cost-saving initiatives (e.g., route optimization, shipment consolidation).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (Logistics or a related field preferred)
- 3–5 years of experience in logistics, freight forwarding, or customs brokerage operations.
- Strong knowledge of Harmonized Tariff Classification and ECCN Classification.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional organizational, prioritization, and planning skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, or a related field.
Certifications
- No certifications required, but industry-recognized certifications (e.g., CUSECO, CCS, or similar) are a plus.
