ESOP Valuation Analyst

Job Title: Vice or Senior Vice President


General Job Description

The ESOP Analyst will use his or her experience in the valuation of closely held companies and in the administration of ESOPs to support Argent Trust Company’s ESOP services. This role includes work on ESOP transactions such as deal structuring, financial analysis, lender financing, and transaction closing issues. The ESOP Analyst would work collaboratively with Argent Trust’s independent valuation experts and outside counsel.

Essential Duties

Financial Analysis and Valuation

  • Deploy an understanding of ERISA and valuation concepts applicable to ESOP transactions and ESOP administration
  • Assist in the preparation and/or review of valuations of closely held companies, and review independent valuation firms’ presentations to Argent Trust’s ESOP Committee
  • Prepare deliverables for, and discuss them with, Argent’s ESOP Committee, presenting a clear narrative of company valuations

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Interact with companies and lawyers on ESOP transactions
  • Work closely with companies and their senior management
  • Constant interaction with Argent Trust personnel
  • Attend conferences to increase ESOP knowledge and skills
  • Some travel required

Skills and Competencies:

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel familiarity and experience with financial analysis and valuation tools
  • Business sense
  • Organized, strong attention to detail and ability to manage complex projects under tight deadlines
  • Proven problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent oral communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly to others who both have and do not have valuation expertise
  • Client-centric & team-oriented mindset

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in ESOP valuations and transactions
  • Certified Valuation Analyst credential or equivalent
  • Knowledge of ERISA regulations as they relate to ESOPs

Education/Experience:

  • College degree with an emphasis in accounting or finance recommended
  • Some knowledge of ERISA and exposure to ESOPs and their regulations
  • Minimum of 5+ years of work experience in business valuation, finance and mergers & acquisitions
