Panel Builder / NPI Technician - Reading, PA

Hours and Pay Rate

4am Start time: 8-10 hours shift including some weekends - $18-24/hr

Responsibilities

  • Build and assemble new electrical industrial control and low-voltage power distribution panels, including prototypes, using hand and power tools.
  • Construct and document prototypes from preliminary or minimal documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Create detailed wire list documentation, including selecting appropriate wire terminals and tooling.
  • Assist Engineering in the design and creation of new panel configurations and layouts.
  • Review daily NPI issues and troubleshoot problems related to prototypes, including layout, wiring, and harness routing.
  • Develop and implement solutions for panel layout challenges and harness routing to improve manufacturability and performance.
  • Provide monthly reports on quality issues identified in NPI builds to support analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Assist with the maintenance, calibration, and inventory of tools used in NPI activities, such as torque tools and related equipment.
  • Support verification, inspection, and testing of panels to confirm they meet design specifications and quality standards.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and related technical documentation to guide assembly and wiring.
  • Assist Engineering with documenting any changes in the ERP system related to NPI builds and engineering updates.
  • Follow 6S practices daily to maintain an organized, safe, and efficient work area.
  • Communicate effectively with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams regarding build status, issues, and improvements.
  • Perform other related duties and tasks as needed to support the NPI and production processes.

Essential Skills

  • Proven manufacturing experience in a production or assembly environment.
  • Hands-on electrical helper experience or a strong mechanical skill set applicable to panel building.
  • Proficiency using hand tools and power tools for electrical and mechanical assembly.
  • Demonstrated assembly experience, ideally in electrical panels or similar products.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and blueprints.
  • Experience with electrical wiring, panel wiring, and electrical assembly work.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic electrical and mechanical issues in panels and assemblies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to follow detailed work instructions and documentation for prototypes.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills to manage tasks and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Flexibility to juggle multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Commitment to following 6S practices and maintaining a clean, organized work area.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with control panel building, panel wiring, and industrial control systems.
  • Familiarity with HVAC-related electrical or mechanical systems.
  • Experience reading and working from plumbing diagrams or related technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and the ability to assist Engineering with documenting changes.
  • Proficiency or exposure to SyteLine and SOLIDWORKS PDM is beneficial.
  • Customer-focused mindset with an emphasis on delivering reliable, high-quality panels.
  • Ability to work independently at a workstation while maintaining productivity and quality.
  • Comfort working with touchscreen interfaces as part of daily tasks.

Work Environment

You will work in a very clean, organized production and engineering environment that supports focused panel-building and NPI activities. The role primarily involves sitting at a workstation while performing detailed assembly, wiring, documentation, and testing tasks. You will regularly use hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and other standard panel-building equipment, as well as touchscreen interfaces for documentation or testing. The environment emphasizes 6S practices, ensuring that tools, materials, and workstations remain orderly, safe, and efficient.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Reading, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $20.00/hr.
