Job Description – Production Supervisor II

Location: Olive Township, MI – Onsite

Department: Fossil Generation – Coal-Fired Power Plant Operations


Overview:

We are seeking two Production Supervisor II professionals to oversee operations at two coal-burning power plants in Olive Township, MI. Each selected candidate will be assigned to one generating plant. This is a critical and urgent hire, requiring candidates with strong industrial supervisory experience in heavy manufacturing or power generation.

The Production Supervisor II will oversee operators on shift, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable power plant operations. This position involves coordination with engineering and maintenance staff, scheduling assignments, troubleshooting plant issues, and enforcing safety procedures such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day shift operations, supervising operators in a coal-fired power plant.
  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of large-scale equipment including pumps, boilers, and high-temperature steam systems.
  • Review and interpret piping and electrical drawings to support troubleshooting activities.
  • Assign and manage overtime scheduling in compliance with union guidelines.
  • Provide technical direction and set priorities for operations staff in coordination with engineering and maintenance teams.
  • Support weekend on-call responsibilities; respond to calls from operations teams as needed.
  • Participate in Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to maintain safety compliance.
  • Promote and enforce safety policies, procedures, and best practices across the plant.
  • Engage in problem-solving and resolution of technical issues affecting plant performance.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong background in heavy industrial manufacturing; power plant or thermal generation experience preferred.
  • Supervisory or technical leadership experience in an industrial environment.
  • Familiarity with power generation systems (fuel systems, steam paths, electrical systems, etc.)
  • Ability to read and understand piping and electrical drawings.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to make quick, informed decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with unionized employees and cross-functional teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a technical field preferred, but equivalent experience in heavy industry will be considered.


Additional Information:

  • Shifts: May include afternoon or evening shifts.
  • On-call: Availability required for evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Interview Process: In-person, 2 rounds.
