SUMMARY:

The Quality Engineer assists the Quality Manager to ensure that purchased parts and raw materials, manufacturing processes and ultimately, final products, meet both internal and external quality standards. The Quality Engineer works within the quality team to ensure the overall quality of a manufactured product meets specifications. Their role includes being tasked with creating documentation, devising gaging criteria, and required inspections. The Quality Engineer has a key role in troubleshooting issues when they arise.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Including but not limited to):

Meets daily with Quality Manager, and performs related duties as assigned.

Collaborates with plant personnel and Engineering Department regarding problems in product quality.

Reviews and confirms gaging criteria for receiving and in-process inspections.

Dispositions nonconforming parts, sub-assemblies and finished goods. Troubleshoots problems as necessary.

Performs inspection of product dimensions and visual quality, as necessary.

Trains personnel on how to perform in-process inspection of manufactured parts, assemblies, and finished goods.

Utilizes coordinate measuring machine and other metrology equipment. Calibrates gages and equipment as necessary.

Interprets engineering drawings and collaborates with Engineering Departments, the Quality Manager and the Production Supervisors.

Performs scheduled calibrations of measuring equipment.

Serves as an internal auditor for the ISO 9001:2015 QMS. Assists in leading and directing auditors for ISO, UL, FM and other agencies.

Develops, monitors, and maintains written quality management system (QMS) procedures and work instructions.

Maintains library of External Standards.

Maintains quality records to meet ISO requirements.

Keeps current with ISO 9001:2015, ISO 9004 and ISO 19011 standards.

Works with suppliers to resolve any quality issues and works through the resolution process.

Trains personnel on the quality management system, including KPIs, quality policy, location of relevant documents, and ensuring the promotion of awareness of customer requirements.

Maintains quality metrics/KPIs for the QMS.

Work with supervisors and managers to maintain documentation of progress for KPIs. Review regularly to ensure that objectives are relevant and continual improvement is made.

Maintains Organizational Chart with assistance of HR Director.

Serves as back-up to the Quality Manager in their absence.

Proactively offers suggestions for the improvement of a product, process, or practice.

Demonstrates that the training provided both internally and externally has been effective. Shows adequate knowledge of information that was learned.

Duties involve close vision, standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, grasping and handling objects with fingers.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

To be successful in this position, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed in this document are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/ or ability required.

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.

Demonstrated experience and proficiency with metrology equipment.

Knowledge of GD&T preferred.

Working knowledge and the ability to make practical application of quality management systems, standards, and regulations.

Experience in a manufacturing setting is a plus.

Working knowledge of operation of a coordinate measuring machine a plus.

Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of manufacturing techniques.

Working knowledge of and ability to operate a computer and applicable software.

Working knowledge of and ability to operate a wide variety of inspection equipment.

Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of OSHA and company safety procedures and precautions.

Ability to make simple arithmetic calculations, read and interpret detailed prints, sketches, layouts and specifications.

Ability to instruct and direct personnel.

Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with other company personnel, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.

Ability to work alone and with others in a team environment with minimum supervision, and work on several tasks at the same time with frequent interruptions.

Ability to occasionally work extended hours.
