Job Summary\nCT technologists utilize computerized tomography (CT) scanners to produce cross-section images of patients’ internal organs and tissues for the diagnosis of medical issues. A CT scan technologist must be able to interpret a physician’s scanning instructions, administer contrast materials, prepare and operate the CT scan equipment and position the patient to capture the appropriate images. A CT scan technologist must maneuver equipment and patients. This effort may pose physical challenges. CT scanners emit radiation, which can be harmful to the technologist and patient if proper safety procedures are not followed.\nEssential Functions\nConducts interactions with everyone in a friendly, courteous and respectful manner.\nGoes out of his/her way to offer assistance to others. If he/she cannot offer assistance, then finds someone who can.\nAdvocates to ensure privacy and confidentiality while helping others to maintain awareness.\nMaintains a clean and safe hospital.\nResponds appropriately and immediately in emergency situations.\nMaintains a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors, and/or staff to provide the highest level of physical comfort, and minimize risk and injury.\nEnsures compliance with regulations to maintain accreditation and licensure.\nComplies with the Hospital Attendance and Tardiness Policy\nCompleted all Hospital and Department Specific Mandatory requirements in the prior calendar year.\nReports Incidents in a timely and effective manner.\nAll employees with direct patient contact are responsible for actively engaging in the practice of, monitoring and enforcing compliance to hand hygiene.\nAssures that all Cat Scan images are of optimum diagnostic quality so that radiologist can make an accurate interpretation of the images.\nFollows pre-determined image criteria to assess images to determine that all images include all required measurements, volumes and anatomical information.\nAssures all images include all required demographic information, charts, graphs, measurements and that the images are of diagnostic quality.\nOperates all diagnostic Cat Scan processing and printing equipment to create a quality final image and ensures all required data is on the final data sheet.\nOperates Cat Scan equipment and selects the correct computer and technical factors.\nProperly operates image processors and printers to ensure diagnostic quality images.\nAssesses patients to ensure optimum exposure techniques. For women of childbearing age (specify ages suggest 13 – 55) appropriate precautions are taken to determine if the patient may be pregnant. For pregnant women, extra precautions are taken to minimize exposure to radioactive sonics and/or potentially harmful radiation.\nUtilizes pre-determined techniques, appropriate computer programs and technical factors to optimize image.\nUtilizes equipment settings and a variety of positioning techniques.\nReviews physician orders for accuracy prior to start of examination to ensure that the appropriate exam is completed.\nCoordinates a review of the requisition/order to determine that the correct examination has been ordered based on the clinical history provided.\nDocuments on the requisition that the technologist has reviewed the order.\nCompletes patient orders and charges, ensures exams are scheduled, ensures image accuracy and patient information so that proper records can be maintained\nAccurately enters orders and charging procedures into the Meditech Computer System.\nCoordinates the daily schedule, Consults with Central Scheduling to schedule exams, ensures quality of images and enters patient data into the Meditech Computer System.\nAssures accurate contrast injection procedures are followed to ensure optimum contrast enhancement\nOperates computer scheduling module.\nCoordinates daily work schedule and patient flow to ensure exams are completed on a timely basis.\nProperly positions patient for each procedure to ensure optimum image quality.\nMaintains a safe environment for patients by assuring that sharp objects, toxic substances and other objects potentially harmful to children are not accessible.\nAssures that the environment of care or services is free of objects which may contribute to the likelihood of patient falls, slips or trips. Makes readily available assistive devices for ambulation. Complies with policies and procedures relating to gait belts and similar devices.\nIs aware of the increased risk of falls, slips, and trips for elderly patients and visitors, and assures that the environment of care or services is free of objects and spills which may contribute to the likelihood of patient falls, slips, or trips.\nIs sensitive to the tendency of older patients to have hearing difficulties. Verifies that he or she is speaking with appropriate level of loudness so that the patient hears instructions, questions, and conversations with caregiver, but that offense is not given to the patient as the result of the voice being excessively loud. Is able to differentiate problems with hearing versus problems with comprehension.\nCorrectly interprets verbal and nonverbal response to pain. Takes appropriate action to minimize the patient’s level of pain by utilizing various pain management techniques and methods.\nTakes appropriate actions to assure physical security of children and complies with policies and procedures related to the prevention of neonate, infant and child abduction.\nIs aware of reduced endurance and strength present in many elderly, and provides accommodation for seating during extended interviews, discussions with secretaries, receptionists and other clerical personnel, or when the patient is waiting for transportation.\nStatement of Other Duties\nThis document describes the major duties and responsibilities for this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions. Occasionally stoop (bending the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist), crouches (bending the body downward and forward by bending legs and spine), and feels (perceiving attributes of items as size, shape, temperature, or texture by means of the fingertips).\nOrganizational Expectations\nBehavioral Attributes\nThe following behavioral attributes are required: achievement motivation, concern for order, flexibility, initiative, self-confidence, self-control, customer service orientation, interpersonal effectiveness, teamwork and information seeking.\nJob Requirements\nMinimum Education\nGraduate from an accredited school of Radiology Technology, or equivalent\nMinimum Work Experience\nMinimum of 1 year CT \nPrevious experience performing CT scan procedures is preferred or equivalent experience as determined by the Department Manager\nExperience on Toshiba CT Scanners is a plus\nRequired Licenses\n MA DPH Radiology License required\nARRT (R) \nARRT (CT) preferred – ARRT (CT) required within two years of hire\nRequired Skills\nOther desirable attributes include: quality conscious, good interpersonal skills, flexible in achieving multiple tasks, dependable, organized, independent judgment, high technical skills
Shift: Flexible shifts, Weekends/Holidays, First and Second shift coverage at both sites as needed. 10 hour shifts and days to be covered
