Job Title: Patient Care Associate (PCA) – Psychiatry
Location: New York, NY 10025
Schedule: 37.5 hours per week

Shift: 3:15 PM – 11:00 PM

5 days per week; some weekends required
Compensation:

Maximum Pay Rate: $24/hour (W2)
Position Summary
The Patient Care Associate (PCA) is an integral member of a multidisciplinary inpatient psychiatry team, providing direct patient care, safety support, and therapeutic assistance. The PCA supports patient admissions, daily living needs, and treatment activities while maintaining a safe, respectful, and therapeutic environment in compliance with established policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with patient admissions and orientation, including valuables verification, review of unit rules, and room/unit orientation

Collaborate with nursing staff and interdisciplinary treatment teams to support and update patient care plans
-
Assist in the implementation of therapeutic interventions and structured patient activities
-
Perform direct patient care tasks, including:
-
Taking and recording vital signs
-
Monitoring height, weight, and other health data
-
Assisting with hygiene, feeding, dressing, and mobility
-
Performing EKGs and venipuncture as required
-

Collect and process specimens (blood, urine, sputum) and perform urine testing
-
Lead or co-lead therapeutic and recreational patient groups
-
Support discharge planning, including transportation coordination and communication with families or caregivers
-
Escort patients for diagnostic testing, court appearances, or approved off-unit activities
-
Safely intervene with aggressive or violent patients using approved restraint and de-escalation techniques
-
Support patients in seclusion or restraint settings according to established procedures
-
Initiate CPR and assist nursing staff during emergency response situations
-
Maintain infection control standards and ensure a clean, safe patient environment
-
Manage an assigned patient caseload, providing supportive counseling to patients and families
Required Skills & Experience
-
Minimum of 2 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
-
Law enforcement
-
Nursing
-
Psychiatric or behavioral health
-
Working with a mental health population
-
-
Experience with venipuncture and EKG procedures
-
Strong interpersonal, de-escalation, and crisis intervention skills
-
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary clinical environment
Education Requirements
-
High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of full-time experience in a related field
OR -
Associate’s degree, preferably in mental health or a related discipline
Certifications & Background Requirements
Required:
-
BLS (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Association
-
Certificate of Medical Assistant training
-
CPI or PMCS certification
-
Successful completion of SEL and SCR background checks
