Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A skilled Sign Language Interpreter is needed to provide communication support within a school setting in Buffalo, NY. This role involves working closely with Deaf and hard-of-hearing students, ensuring effective communication throughout the school day. The position may require travel between multiple school locations to meet student needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa in educational settings
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and staff to support access to curriculum and social interaction
  • Collaborate with educational teams to accommodate individual student requirements
  • Attend meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and school events as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism consistent with ethical standards

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language with certified interpreting credentials preferred
  • Experience interpreting in K-12 or educational environments
  • Strong understanding of Deaf culture and communication techniques
  • Ability to manage travel between multiple school sites efficiently
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
