Summary of Major Responsibilities:
This position is for the p.m. shift. The primary responsibilities of the Medical Assistant are to provide basic mental and behavioral health care within a multidisciplinary team at the Crossroads Foundation. This includes providing basic direct resident care and basic administrative duties within the scope of their practice, in accordance with the Crossroads Foundations policies and procedures. Additionally, following the regulations from the Medical Board of California MAs work to perform technical support services such as medication administration,
hypodermic injections, skin tests, and dressing changes. Other responsibilities include explaining the administered pharmacological agents and performed treatments to residents.
Responsibilities:
Medical Assistants work under the supervision of either the MD, NP, ED, AD and PD to perform basic administrative, clerical, and technical supportive services
o The supervising MD or NP must be physically present in the treatment facility during the performance of any technical supportive services
Preparing and administering medications, including by intradermal, subcutaneous, or intramuscular injections, as directed by a physician or other licensed provider (e.g., a nurse practitioner)
Check vital signs and document them accordingly
Supports resident care delivery by helping health care providers in collecting, preparing, and performing basic laboratory tests, including skin tests.
Assist residents in activities of daily living as needed
Over-seeing client self-administered medications
Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt
Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations
Maintains resident confidence, updating residents records, and protects operations by keeping resident care information confidential
Explaining treatment procedures to residents
Administrative Duties (may include, but not limited to):
Perform basic administrative and clerical services
Using computer applications
Answering telephones
Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services
Monitoring of Detoxification and Residential Clients including:
Provision of Incidental Medical Services (IMS) as per facility Policies and Procedures.
Maintain order and cleanliness of the IMS, detox (when opened)
Monitor and report client behavior
Measures and records patients' vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration when required and within scope of training
Administer required drug testing within scope of training
Complete shift reports, walkthrough reports, logging, and discuss client/update incoming shift tech with client behaviors and concerns.
Always ensure the safety and well-being of clients.
Education:
Required:
Certified by an accredited and approved medical assisting program through the Department of Education and approved by the Medical Board of California required.
A minimum of 1-year post-licensure experience with direct clinical experience.
American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider
Desired:
Documentation of certification as a Medical Assistant.
Over 2 years of experience working as a Certified Medical Assistant in substance use treatment program or a behavioral health unit.
First Aid Certified within 60 days of employment
CPR Certified within 60 days of employment
