Job Description

Position Summary: Setting up, monitoring, and optimizing the injection molding process to ensure the production of high-quality plastic products while maintaining efficiency and minimizing downtime.

Schedule: Friday - Sunday, 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. *Includes 16.5% shift differential.

Essential Functions:

  • Machine Set Up: Prepare and set up plastic injection molding machines with the appropriate molds, materials, and tooling, following established procedures and production schedules.
  • Process Optimization: Continuously monitor and adjust machine parameters, including temperature, pressure, and cycle times, to achieve optimal product quality and production efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting: Quickly diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions, process inconsistencies, and quality issues to minimize downtime and ensure smooth production flow.
  • Mold Maintenance: Collaborate with toolroom team to inspect, clean, and maintain molds, ensuring their proper functioning and extending their lifespan.
  • Material Handling: Assist in the handling, preparation of materials, ensuring proper material selection, drying, and storage for consistent production.
  • Quality Control: Perform regular quality checks on molded products, identifying defects or deviations from specifications, and making necessary adjustments to meet quality standards.
  • Process Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of process settings, adjustments, and production metrics, following company protocols and guidelines.
  • Training: Provide training and support to Set Up Technicians, ensuring they understand the injection molding process and can handle routine adjustments and basic troubleshooting.
  • Continuous Improvement: Actively participate in process improvement initiatives, suggesting and implementing changes to enhance efficiency, quality and safety.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, promoting safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven experience as an Injection Molding Process Technician or similar role, with a comprehensive understanding of injection molding processes and equipment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of injection molding machines, processing parameters, and material characteristics. Familiarity with various molding techniques.
  • Ability to analyze process data, identify trends, and implement adjustments to optimize production.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting machine and process issues, with a proactive approach to prevent potential problems.
  • Attentive to details and committed to maintaining precision and consistency in the production process.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with team members, engineers and superiors.
  • Willingness to work in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities and occasional overtime to meet production demands.
  • Excellent time management, follow-through, and reliable transportation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move around the production area easily. Involves walking, standing, bending and reaching for extended periods of time.
  • Operation of injection molding presses, auxiliary equipment, forklifts, and overhead cranes.
  • Lifting moderately heavy objects such as molds, equipment and materials using safe lifting techniques.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to handle small components, set up molds and adjust machine setting accurately.
  • May perform inspection of molds, machine components, and products for defects.
  • Being attentive to machine sounds and alarms to detect unusual noises or malfunctions during the setup process.
  • Injection molding machines can generate heat and noise during operation. Must have comfort with heat and noises.
  • Willingness and ability to wear PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection as required by AMT Safety Guidelines.
