Lab Assistant Intern / Hardware Lab Assistant (growth track position to Lab Technician)

Please note: This Lab Assistant Intern / Hardware Lab Assistant position starts at $37,440 (equivalent of $18/hr.) and is part of a growth/promotion track to Lab Technician that will start at $62,400 (equivalent of $30/hr.)

We are seeking a motivated and curious Lab Assistant Intern to support datacenter and hardware operations while learning hands-on technical skills in a cutting-edge environment. This internship is designed for recent graduates or individuals early in their hardware/IT journey who have a solid foundational understanding and a strong desire to grow into a full-time Lab Technician role.

As a Lab Assistant Intern, you will work onsite at the datacenter in Redmond, WA, assisting with hardware builds, basic troubleshooting, equipment setup, and general lab operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, is eager to learn, and can adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.

In this role, the nature of the work is dynamic and requires a collaborative attitude. While you will have specific duties, it's important to understand that the entire team is responsible for the final delivery, and this may occasionally involve taking on additional tasks outside your primary responsibilities. The ability to adapt and contribute wherever needed is key to succeeding in this environment.

Schedule

40 hrs/wk

Our team supports a 24/7 business model and is looking for candidates who can take any regular shift assignment that the team needs. This may include daytime, swing, nighttime, weekends, weekdays, etc.

Primary Responsibilities

Hands-On Infrastructure Support (Training Provided)

Assist with physical installation of racks, servers, network devices, cabling, and power units.

Help build and configure servers, including wiring and basic setup.

Support routine lab maintenance and organization, including prototype and test hardware upkeep.

Learn and assist with cabling, power routing, and equipment labeling.

Technical Learning & Support

Participate in system setup and basic hardware validation under supervision.

Install operating systems and help run automated test scripts.

Learn to use debug tools such as multimeters, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.

Support simple board troubleshooting, firmware flashing, and component handling.

Assist with basic soldering or rework tasks (training available).

Collaboration & Flexibility

Work closely with senior technicians and engineers to support project goals.

Adapt to changing priorities and take on new tasks as needed.

Maintain flexibility with scheduling, including night or late-evening shifts.

Demonstrate reliability, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn continuously.

Basic Qualifications

Recent graduate or currently pursuing a degree/certificate in Engineering Technology, Computer Hardware, IT, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on experience.

Foundational understanding of computer hardware, components, and basic networking.

Comfortable working with tools, following technical instructions, and performing physical tasks.

Strong desire to develop into a Lab Technician role.

Preferred / “Nice-to-Have” Skills (All Trainable)

Exposure to server builds, PC assembly, or lab environments.

Familiarity with basic board troubleshooting or electrical concepts.

Any experience with Linux or OS installations.

Intro-level soldering or rework experience.

Interest in datacenter operations, hardware validation, or system deployment.

Knowledge of scripting, hardware logging tools, or equipment like oscilloscopes (a plus).
