Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Life Coach to support adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) in achieving greater independence, social engagement, and personal growth. The Life Coach will work within a community-based social recreation training program or provide personal assistance to individuals, focusing on life skills, self-advocacy, social interactions, and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individualized Support: Assist individuals in setting and achieving personal goals related to social skills, communication, independent living, and community engagement.
  • Skill Development: Provide coaching on daily living skills, self-care, financial literacy, time management, and employment readiness.
  • Social & Recreational Engagement: Facilitate group and one-on-one activities that promote social interaction, recreation, and personal interests.
  • Community Integration: Support individuals in navigating community resources, participating in recreational outings, and fostering relationships.
  • Advocacy & Empowerment: Encourage self-advocacy by helping individuals develop confidence in making choices and expressing their needs.
  • Personal Assistance (if applicable): Provide hands-on support with activities of daily living (ADLs), including meal preparation, hygiene, and transportation, based on individual needs.
  • Safety & Well-being: Ensure a safe, supportive environment while promoting independence and dignity.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of progress, participation, and any incidents, following organizational guidelines.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with families, caregivers, case managers, and other professionals to ensure holistic support.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with individuals with IDD or in a related human services field preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a patient, supportive approach.
  • Ability to motivate, encourage, and empower individuals to reach their potential.
  • Knowledge of community resources and social-recreational programs for adults with disabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid CA driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Training in person-centered planning and positive behavior support strategies.
  • Experience with assistive technology or adaptive recreation.
