Freelance Senior Insurance Advisor for AI Research

Uber AI Solutions is Uber’s new marketplace connecting freelancers with Generative AI researchers. We are inviting experienced insurance professionals to contribute to a client-led Generative AI initiative focused on insurance claims, and policy evaluation. This is a freelance, paid, project-based opportunity — flexible, remote, and designed for professionals who want to apply their expertise to help shape how AI supports the insurance industry.

Responsibilities

As an Insurance Domain Expert, you will be responsible for the following key tasks:

  • Workflow Definition: Collaborate with our AI and engineering teams to define the most common research-based workflows within your specific domain (e.g.,Actuaries, Underwriters, Claims Adjusters, or Insurance/Damage Appraisers)
  • Evaluation Creation: Develop and create comprehensive evaluations and test cases to assess the completion of the day to day workflows required in your Domain. This involves specifying model prompts, evaluating prompt outputs, and providing the criteria for success.
  • Capability Assessment: Design evaluations to assess the key capabilities of the LLM in handling complex financial/insurance policy tasks, including data extraction, public guidelines and insurance policies, state rules and regulations.
  • Data Curation & Annotation: Provide guidance on identifying and curating high-quality US Insurance and Claims data and content that is essential for training and fine-tuning the LLM.
  • Feedback & Iteration: Work closely with the product team to provide constructive feedback on the LLM's performance and suggest improvements to enhance its accuracy and relevance.

Project details

  • Location: Remote (only open to professionals based in the United States).
  • Payout structure: Task-based pay model. Competitive rates per completed task, determined by complexity and experience.
  • Type: Freelance / Independent contractor.

Key Requirements

  • Domain Expertise: 12+ years of practical, professional experience in one of the following fields:
  • Claims Leaders (Claims Adjustment): Investigate insurance claims to determine the extent of the insurer's liability and work to find a fair settlement.
  • Licenses to look for: Claims Adjuster License / CPCU / CCP / FCLA / PTC
  • Insurance Claims & Policy Processing Clerks: Handle the administrative work involved in managing claims and policy processing
  • Licenses to look for: AIS / AIDA
  • Underwriters: Evaluate insurance applications, assess risks, and decide whether to approve coverage and at what price
  • Licenses to look for: AU / API / CPCU
  • Actuaries: Use statistical data and complex financial models to analyze risks, predict future losses, and help determine insurance rates.
  • Licenses to look for: ASA or FSA / ACAS or FCAS / CERA
  • (Note Would focus on Claims Adjusters for a start)
  • Experience: Open to senior, Mid-level and Executive level professionals
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities to break down complex financial processes into logical, measurable steps.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate complex financial concepts to a non-finance audience.
  • Technical Acumen: A basic understanding of AI, machine learning, or experience working with technical teams is a significant plus.

Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail is crucial for creating accurate and robust evaluation criteria.
