Job DescriptionLHH Recruitment Solutions is seeking a Corporate Tax Manager to lead domestic indirect tax strategy and operations for a growing organization. This role owns end-to-end compliance and advisory across sales & use, property, gross receipts, and excise taxes, while mentoring a small team and partnering closely with Finance, IT, Supply Chain, and Operations.
Summary of the role
- Lead the company's U.S. indirect tax function, with specific ownership of excise tax compliance, controls, and reporting.
- Build and manage a team of tax analysts and outside advisors; set priorities, coach for performance, and scale processes as the business grows.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all indirect and excise tax audits, notices, and inquiries; prepare responses, defend positions, and drive timely resolutions.
- Oversee multi-state registrations, calendar management, return preparation, and payment workflows; ensure accurate determination and timely filing.
- Implement and optimize tax technology (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, ONESOURCE) and ERP integrations to strengthen data quality and automate calculations.
- Develop and maintain indirect tax policies, SOX-aligned controls, and documentation; establish KPIs and dashboards that surface risk and opportunity.
- Partner on product taxability, supply chain changes, M&A integrations, and go-to-market initiatives; provide practical guidance to non-tax stakeholders.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes impacting domestic indirect and excise taxes; translate developments into business-ready action plans.
- Identify refunds, credits, exemptions, and process efficiencies that reduce cash outlay and improve working capital.
Required qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive domestic indirect tax experience in the United States, including multi-state sales and use tax.
- Demonstrated leadership experience (people management and/or leading cross-functional initiatives).
- Hands-on excise tax experience
- Proficiency with tax engines and ERP systems; strong data skills (Excel or similar) and comfort with large transactional datasets.
- Proven track record building scalable processes, controls, and calendars in a high-growth or complex environment.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to simplify complex tax topics for non-tax partners and influence decisions.
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA and/or MST/JD-LL.M. in Taxation preferred.
- Experience designing or optimizing indirect tax modules during ERP implementations or upgrades.

Pay Details: $125,000.00 to $135,000.00 per year
