The Business Development Representative is responsible for identifying, developing, and nurturing relationships with key referral sources, including hospital discharge planners, long-term care facilities, assisted living centers, home health agencies, hospice providers, and other healthcare providers. This role is critical in driving referral volume, enhancing the visibility of the company’s products and services, and supporting overall revenue growth. The ideal candidate is results-driven, personable, and well-versed in the healthcare landscape related to durable medical equipment (DME).
Key Responsibilities:
· Relationship Development & Outreach:
· Establish and maintain strong relationships with discharge planners, case managers, social workers, facility administrators, and other referral sources.
· Conduct regular visits to hospitals, long-term care facilities, assisted living communities, and medical practices.
· Educate referral partners about DME product offerings, service capabilities, and insurance processes.
· Coordinate and attend networking events, trade shows, and industry conferences to build brand presence.
· Operations Management:
· Oversee day-to-day retail and store operations, including inventory, logistics, and customer service.
· Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and accreditation standards (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, OSHA, and accrediting bodies).
· Manage vendor relationships, purchasing, and product pricing strategy.
· Monitor and ensure proper maintenance and servicing of medical equipment.
· Sales & Business Growth:
· Identify new business opportunities and referral sources to expand market share.
· Meet or exceed monthly and quarterly referral and sales targets.
· Develop and implement strategic plans to increase referral traffic and revenue.
· Monitor market trends and competitor activity to adjust outreach strategies accordingly.
· Drive sales through business development efforts and community outreach.
· Ensure customers receive accurate information and timely service.
· Resolve escalated customer issues professionally and efficiently.
· Financial Management:
· Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.
· Track KPIs including revenue, gross margins, inventory turns, and collections.
· Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue growth.
· Customer & Partner Service:
· Serve as a point of contact for referral sources to resolve issues, answer questions, and provide ongoing support.
· Ensure a seamless experience for referral partners and their patients by working closely with internal service and delivery teams.
· Follow up with referring partners to ensure satisfaction and encourage continued collaboration.
· Reporting & Compliance:
· Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, contacts, and referral trends using CRM tools.
· Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare marketing and privacy regulations, including HIPAA.
· Prepare and present reports on referral performance, outreach effectiveness, and market opportunities.
· Ensure all documentation meets payer and accreditation requirements.
· Stay updated on changes in DME billing, coding, and compliance guidelines.
· Prepare for and manage audits and inspections.
Qualifications:
· Education & Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field (preferred)
· 3+ years of experience in healthcare sales, marketing, or business development, preferably in the DME or home healthcare industry
· Proven track record of relationship-building and meeting referral or sales targets
· Knowledge of the healthcare referral process and payer systems (Medicare/Medicaid, commercial insurance)
· Skills & Competencies:
· Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
· Self-motivated with a strong sense of initiative and accountability
· Ability to manage and prioritize multiple relationships and opportunities
· Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite
· Understanding of HIPAA and healthcare marketing compliance standards
Compensation:
· Base salary plus performance-based commissions
· Mileage reimbursement or company vehicle
