The nature of this job varies by season in relation to the needs of the camp. Flexibility is a primary component of this position. Applicants must understand that the following description is tentative and performance outside of these duties may be required to further the ministry of the camp.
The Food Service Coordinator is primarily a supervisory role responsible for overseeing the food service department at Round Lakes Main Camp in Ashland County. This person will oversee the staff and operations of two kitchens at Main Camp. Kitchens do operate simultaneously at times.
This position reports directly to the Camp Management Team.
Responsibilities
- Operate food service department by supervising the preparation, cooking and serving of all meals
- Prepare daily menu, weekly inventories, delivery inventories, and weekly camp dining schedules
- Use and prepare menus for large quantities of food with attention to economy and efficiency
- Order, receive and manage the preservation of foodstuffs and other supplies
- Operate all kitchen equipment safely while facilitating a safe food service environment
- Maintain and clean all food service equipment and facilities to appropriate sanitation standards
- Train and supervise food service cooks and assistants, as well as kitchen volunteers
- Maintain a high standard of sanitation in food preparation in accordance with ServSafe practices
- Establish procedures for managing supply inventory to ensure full utilization of stocked food while avoiding shortages
- Adapt recipes by manipulating yields to fit various needs
Experience/Certifications
- Minimum 35 years of experience in large-quantity cooking is strongly preferred
- Previous experience managing a kitchen, ordering supplies and creating menus is preferred
- Current ServSafe Certification (NRAEF) or the ability to obtain this certification upon hire
- Ability to obtain and maintain any other trainings or certifications for this position

- Demonstrates strong leadership skills necessary to foster a healthy kitchen culture
- Shows strong communication skills in working with staff, volunteers and campers
- Ability to meet dietary needs (food allergies, etc.) in a professional and compassionate manner
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic computer skills necessary for inventory, ordering, etc.
- Holds a valid Ohio Drivers License
- Physical ability to handle equipment, move supplies and work in high-temperature environments
- Serve as liaison to the local Health Department to ensure compliance and safe practices
- Adhere to all camp-policies and procedures along with federal, state and local laws
- Upon hire must be willing to sign and affirm Round Lake's Statement of Faith
Schedule
Round Lake Christian Camp is a ministry serving groups widely varying in age and need. Due to this dynamic, flexibility is essential and the schedule varies based on the time of year and the camp programs being offered. Schedule is determined based on the needs of programs onsite at any given time.
Summer Camp Season
The summer camp season typically lasts about 10 weeks, running from early June through early August. Groups are usually onsite late Sunday afternoon through mid-afternoon on Friday, with an occasional group on Saturday. The Food Service Coordinator typically works Monday-Friday during this season.
Retreat Season
During the remainder of the year, a variety of retreats are hosted at the camp. While some take place during the week, the majority are on weekends.The schedule of the Food Service Coordinator will be based on the needs of retreats and rental groups from mid-August through early June. While not required to work every weekend that meals are being served, the Food Service Coordinator is responsible for ensuring kitchens are properly staffed and groups are adequately served.
The camp is closed for about two weeks during the Christmas season to provide rest for our staff.
Compensation and Benefits
- This position is classified as full-time salaried. Pay is bi-weekly.
