Position Summary
This position is responsible for listening to, understanding, and translating spoken or written statements from one language to another. Must be able to reproduce statements in another language for unique listening or reading audience, especially in technical areas.
Essential Job Functions
- Attends conferences and meetings; acts as official translator to mediate discussion and ensure understanding by all parties
- Relays concepts and ideas between languages; interprets both technical terminology and colloquial language
- Records minutes from meetings; writes minutes to accurately reflect outcomes
- Facilitates effective communication between two parties that do not speak a similar language by converting one spoken or written language to another; assists with translations throughout the company as required
- Converts written materials from one language into another both verbally and in writing
- Edits and proofreads text to accurately reflect language
- Receives and submits assignments electronically
- Uses dictionaries and glossaries for reference
- Employs computer-assisted translation when necessary
- Facilitates communication for people with limited English proficiency
- Translates written documents and spoken words from one language to another
- Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Assists department with technical work not specifically related to translating as time allows
- Handles administrative and technical duties as requested
- Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of EHSS principles and values; champions safety at all times; participates in and/or leads safety teams or projects as appropriate
- Performs other duties assigned by management that generally fall within the expected scope of this position

Experience & KSA’s Required
- Ability to read, write and speak English and Korean; native English speaker preferred
- 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area
- Ability to understand “nuances” of both languages used in translations
- Proficient understanding of cultural sensitivities and ability to collaborate with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Experience working in technical company
- Well-versed in vocabulary of petrochemical organizations preferred
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of petrochemical or similar fields helpful
- Self-motivated; prioritizes; excellent organizational skills
- Proficiency in using AI resources to supplement written translation
- Experience working with various office equipment; ability to trouble-shoot equipment
- Ability to multi-task and follow through on assignments
- Good computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; ability to use database systems and other programs and applications used by this position and at Company
- Fluent in English language including reading, writing and speaking; ability to read and write at a minimum of high school level; ability to clearly communicate to all levels in organization
Education Requirement
- High school degree or equivalent required
- Bachelor’s degree in technical field preferred (engineering, technical school)

This employee generally works in an office environment, away from extremes of cold or heat. Limited to no exposure to noise and vibrations other than normal daily office sounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee should not have regular exposure to fumes, odors, toxic conditions, dust or poor ventilation. If sited at a plant, may be exposed to various chemicals or other environmental conditions normally found in a petrochemical plant. If working during a construction period, the employee could be exposed to loose dirt, construction zone areas, additional safety zones, and other construction related environmental characteristics. All areas are safe with required PPE.
