This opportunity calls for an experienced RN with strong Neuro-Cardiac Med/Surg Telemetry expertise to provide exceptional care on a specialized 32-bed unit. Located in Boonville, IN, this 13-week contract position offers a dynamic clinical environment focused on complex post-cardiac catheterization patients and neuro assessments.
Location and Setting:
Situated near Indianapolis, Boonville offers a friendly small-town atmosphere with convenient access to urban amenities. The Neuro Cardiac Unit is part of a teaching hospital environment where professional development and collaboration are encouraged. Team members float within skillset between nearby campuses, enhancing clinical variety and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive care to complex Med/Surg/Telemetry patients including post-cardiac caths, CVA/TIA, ICDs, oncology, and neuro post-op cases
- Perform strong neuro assessments including NIHSS and dysphagia screening
- Interpret telemetry and 12-lead ECGs; initiate and titrate drips (insulin, cardiac, heparin)
- Manage heart catheterization recoveries, including femoral and TR band care
- Float to nearby campuses as required with appropriate notice
- Provide support as a preceptor for students and new staff when needed
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Active compact RN license with current AHA BLS and NIHSS certification
- Minimum of 2 years strong Tele/Med-Surg experience including 1 travel assignment and trauma level II exposure
- Recent EPIC charting experience (checkoff class required)
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Proven critical thinking skills and ability to manage change in a fast-paced setting
- Ability to pass telemetry competency tests required for travelers
Schedule and Expectations:
- 12-hour day shifts, 6:30 AM to 7 PM
- Guaranteed 36 hours weekly, 48 hours available upon request with overtime after 52 hours
- Weekends: Three out of every six weeks
- No on-call or call-back required
